According to sources, around 15 terrorists had tried to infiltrate but the Army foiled their attempt. Indian troops fired at a group of terrorists, and had set out to retrieve the bodies, a senior Indian Army officer told a news agency.

Army spokesman Manish Kumar said a number of infiltrators had been killed, but he could not confirm how many.

On Sunday, 18 soldiers were martyred in the strike at Army base in Uri which drew strong condemnation from various quarters. India has accused Pakistan of having a role in the Sunday terror strike, one of the deadliest attacks.

Meanwhile, Pakistani troops on Tuesday afternoon again opened fire at Indian posts in Uri sector and targeted the Indian Army positions with small firearms.
