Champavat: Holding an accused guilty, the District Sessions Court on Wednesday pronounced a punishment of 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for being involved in circulating fake notes during Purnagiri fair.

The prosecution had accused Pappu Nigam, s/o Radhemohan, resident of Abhaypur Noraraha, Lakhimpur (UP), of circulating fake notes in the denomination of five hundred and one thousand rupees.

Acting on a complaint of Keshavsingh Mahar of Uchauligoth, police had nabbed Pappu with 16 notes of one thousand denomination and three notes of five hundred. A case was registered in this regard with Kotwali Takanpur under the Section 489B and 489C.

Judge Rajendra Singh Chauhan on Wednesday held the accused guilty under Section 489B and Section 489C. Apart from a jail term, a fine of Rs 10,000 was also slapped against the accused.

If the accused fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of six months.
