Lohardaga: At least 11 policemen were killed and 50 others were injured when Maoists triggered multiple landmine blasts near Dhardhariya village in Lohardaga district of Jharkhand on Tuesday.

SP Lohardaga had received a tip-off in the evening about a Maoists squad being active near Dhardhariya. Acting on the information, a police team led by the SHO of Senha police station BP Devgam and CRPF commander RK Singh was sent to Dhardhariya.

The guerrillas ambushed the team. They reportedly triggered nearly 300 landmines leading to heavy casualty.

“10 jawans were killed on the spot. One died while on way to the hospital,” DGP Gaurishankar said.

The injured were airlifted and admitted to a Ranchi hospital.

This is the first time that serial landmine blasts were triggered in Jharkhand.  The red ultras have attacked security forces in Chhattisgarh in similar fashion in the past.
