Assistant Director of Fisheries Gopinath said while eight fishermen were from Rameswaram, the rest were from Jegadappatinam in Pudukottai district. He said the fishermen and their three boats have been taken to Talaimannar where they would be produced before a magistrate.
The Lankan naval men allegedly rammed a boat and damaged it, but the occupants managed to reach Indian waters with their vessel. They also allegedly snapped the fishing nets of several boats.
