Beijing: At least thirteen people were killed and 21 others injured when a tourist bus collided with a truck in eastern China on Sunday.

The accident occurred when a tourist bus from Shanghai drove through the barriers in the middle of the expressway and collided with a heavy truck coming in the opposite direction in the Changshu section of the Yanjiang Expressway in China's Jiangsu province, officials said.

Both vehicles turned turtle, the government spokesman said.

Thirty three passengers were aboard the bus when the accident happened, he said.

Six bus passengers and the driver of the truck were killed on the spot, and six other people died after rescue efforts failed, a news agency reported.

Among the 21 injured, four are still in critical condition. The bus was heading to Shanghu in Changshu, for a peony show.
