New Delhi: The Supreme Court orders on Tuesday came as a big relief for Taqi Ahmed, brother of Naqi Ahmed who is an accused in the 13/7 Mumbai serial blasts. The Court has directed a stay order on his arrest till February 21.

Though Taqi is in the custody of Maharashtra ATS in connection with the serial blasts, the special cell of Delhi police has claimed Taqi to be its informer

Anticipating arrest , Taqi filed a petition in the Apex Court and his lawyer Sanjay Khanna appealed for an immediate hearing on the case.

A bench headed by Justice Altamas Kabir after acting on the petitioner’s arguments stayed Taqi’s arrest till February 21 but asked him to report to the Jamia Nagar police every alternate day. The bench has also issued notices to Delhi police, Central government and Maharashtra ATS.

According to Taqi’s petition to the Supreme Court, there is no coordination between the Delhi Police and Maharashtra ATS in their investigation. He also alleged that he and his brother have been arrested on false claims by Maharashtra ATS of being involved in the 13/7 blasts. Also, that he and his family have been threatened and harassed repeatedly.
