Ludhiana: A joint team of the Commissioner of Police Ludhiana and of Khanna Police district on Monday conducted raids to check illegal mining on the banks of the Sutlej and arrested 14 persons.

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tewari said 14 persons were arrested and 53 trucks/trollies and 12 JCB machines seized.

He said here he has written a letter to the Chief Secretary, Punjab, in which he suggested that a team of 11 police personnel be placed at the disposal of District Mining Officer for constant raid/check of vulnerable areas falling in each police district respectively.

He said he has ordered that in all complaint cases which have been referred to the police heads by the Mining Officer, consequent FIR’s should be registered immediately.

Taking note of news items appearing in various sections of the media about illegal mining along the banks of Sutlej river, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had directed Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana to personally head raids against illegal miners and take action against law-breakers.
