New Delhi: As many as 14 people of the same family traveling in a Maruti van charred to death on Tuesday evening. The accident took place on Delhi-Saharanpur highway. It has also been reported that six people received severe burn injuries and were admitted at a hospital located in Shamli.

The tragic accident took place when Jamshed, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, was on his way to his place in a van with 20 family members after attending a marriage ceremony. The Maruti van in which they were travelling suddenly caught fire on Delhi-Saharanpur highway near Alem town. Nearby people rushed to the spot and tried to evacuate the people trapped inside the vehicle but only six of them could be brought out. Fire brigade personnel and police teams rushed to the spot from Prabudh Nagar and Bagpat and stubbed out the fire.

Police official Rafiq Ahmed confirmed the death of 14 people in this incident.
