Reckang Peo:  Seventeen people including three jawans and a two year old lost their lives on Wednesday when a dumper truck of General Reserve Engineer Force fell into a gorge in Pooh of Kinnaur district. Also, two people who jumped from the truck in order to save themselves were severely injured and are undergoing treatment at Reckang Peo district hospital.

The victims mostly labourers are said to be of Gumta district in Jharkhand. The police have filed a case in this regard and have started investigations into the incident.

According to the police, the GREF truck loaded with labourers was going to Speelo after completing repair work on the road when it fell into a deep ravine.

After hours of efforts put in by the police and the locals, the dead bodies could be taken out from the ravine while the weather played a spoilsport in the rescue operation. The postmortem of the bodies is being conducted on the spot.

Acting Officer –in-charge of Pawari, Subodh Kumar said, “The roads are in poor condition due to heavy rain and snowfall. The labourers were returning after completing the repair work when the accident occurred. The GREF is preparing to handover the bodies of its jawans to their families.”
