Motihari (East Champaran): The police have recovered bodies of two villagers so far while dozens remain missing on Friday after the boat carrying several villagers capsized in Gandak River near Semra Ghat in East Champaran district of Bihar on Thursday.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate Abhijit Sinha has barred the operating of boats after 4:00 pm in an attempt to avoid any form of interruption in the rescue operations.

The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the family members of deceased persons in the tradegy.

Moreover, the police have asked the head of Gram Panchayats to collect information about the missing villagers.

Meanwhile, the DM has also asked the SDO to monitor the ghats and assure that any of the boats are not overloaded. He has also asked to keep trained swimmers at the river banks so that loss of lives in such mishaps can be minimised.
