Cairo: At least 20 people have been arrested in Egypt over attacks on police stations and gas pipelines, state media reported.

The security chief of North Sinai region, Saleh al-Masry, said the captured 20 people, including a number of Palestinians, belonged to jihadist cells, according to news daily.

He said some of them were recruited to carry out attacks in Sinai.

He, however, ruled out that the attackers belonged to Al Qaeda.

Egypt's security forces have launched a campaign to uproot all terror cells.
