The rescued childen include eight girls, police said. Five employers have been arrested and cases have been registered against them under Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act 1976.

They were rescued yesterday in the operation that was closely coordinated with officials of Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), the District Magistrate and the labour inspector among others, a senior police official said.

While nine children rescued from shoe-making units belong to Bihar, the rest, who belong to Jharhand, were found trapped by two placement agencies. The rescued children are aged between 12-18, the official said. Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi is the founder of 'Bachpan Bachao Andolan', based out of the city's Kalkaji area.
