As many as 1,389 pilgrims, including 890 men, 336 women and 12 children, left from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu in a cavalcade of 39 vehicles at 4:20 am, police said.

The convoy has already crossed Patnitop on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and would reach their destinations at Baltal and Pahalgam base camps by Saturday evening, they said.

A total of 42,412 pilgrims have so far left from the Jammu base camp for the Amarnath shrine.

The first batch of Amarnath Yatra was flagged off by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir. The yatra to the cave shrine will end on August 10.
