28 hairstyles approved for North Koreans

North Korea: Dictator Kim Jong-un has issued another hair-brained order. North Korea's leader has told his people that there are 28 hairstyles one is allowed to choose from. Men can pick from 10 variations on the short back and sides. But the despot Teddy Boy look adopted by their supreme leader is not on the list. Older men in the state can grow their barnets to three inches long.

By the orders issued by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, men are supposed to cut their hair every 15 days. But all other blokes have been warned to ensure their hair is a maximum length of two inches, which suggests Kim Jong-un might need to pay a visit to a barber. Women have a bit more choices. A dazzling array of 18 styles that seem to have been plucked from an episode of 80s soap Dynasty. Married women have been told to keep their hair short while singletons can have longer locks.

Spiky crops are among North Korea’s banned styles. Breaking the new rules could leave people facing a brush with the law. But North Korea’s first lady, Ri Sol-ju, has proved herself to be more fashion forward suggesting there could be a change for the country’s next generation.
