New Delhi: The 28th Delhi State Shooting Championship has begun in the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in Delhi on Friday with large number of participants starting the practice session. The competition matches will start from September 29 to 30.

The Olympic success of Indian shooters in three back-to-back games since Athens in 2004 has portrayed a better image of shooting in minds of Indians due to which youths are taking more interest in this sport and opting it as a professional career. They feel that the shooting in India has an enormous scope.

The Indian shooters including Gagan Narang, Abhinav Bindra and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore have already received medals and made India proud at Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

Delhi State Rifle Association Secretary Rajiv Sharma said, “London Olympic success has played a very important role in image building for shooting and now more and more youths are started to participate in this sport and taking this as a career option.”

Around 450 Delhi Shooters participated in 22 different events of this shooting championship and we have added two new pistol events for women in 25 meter Standard Pistol and 50 Meter Free Pistol event respectively said Rajiv Sharma.
