New Delhi: In what could ratchet up troubles for former Telecom Minister and the prime accused in the 2G spectrum case A Raja, the CBI is now gearing up to file a fresh FIR against him in connection with giving the WiMax license to BSNL.

The CBI has already got the nod from the Central Vigilance Commission to investigate the criminal conspiracy in the case.

According to a senior official, the probing agency is already examining documents of the BSNL’s license provided by the CVC and soon an FIR would be lodged against BSNL Chief Managing Director Kuldeep Goyal.

The CBI is mulling if it should first file the FIR against Raja and Goyal or a case of preliminary investigation should be lodged. Like 2G, Raja in this case had also overpowered the state run BSNL to sign a deal with Ampoules and Auto Private Limited, whose owner Dato Vijaya Kumar is said to be a close friend of Raja.

It is believed that even if the company did not qualify the conditions of the tender and the CVC referred the case to the CBI after finding gross violations and criminal conspiracy in the dubious allotment of WiMax franchisee of BSNL to Starnet Communications, owned by close associate of Raja.

The Starnet, which failed to meet the criteria specified by BSNL, was issued Letter of Intent (LoI) in six major circles of the public sector telecom company.
