New Delhi: A 30-year-old Japanese woman was injured here in the early hours on Sunday when a speeding SUV hit the car in which she was travelling, police said.

Rika Hio was on way to a hotel from international airport here on arrival in a car when she met with the accident at R K Ashram Chowk at around 3 AM, a senior police official said.

The hotel officials had sent their driver Bablu Sharma (30) to pick her up from the airport and when the car reached R K Ashram Chowk, a speeding Toyota Innova hit the vehicle from the left side, the official said.

After the accident, he said, the driver of the Innova fled the scene in his vehicle. Nobody could note down the registration number of the erring vehicle, he said.

Police was informed and they rushed Hio and Sharma to hospital Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where they were treated.

The nature of injury received by Hio and Sharma was blunt in nature, the official said.

A case under Sections 379 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others) was registered against unknown persons.

The officials said efforts were on to trace the SUV and arrest the driver.
