Jammu: Set to give a fillip to quality education in Madrassas in Jammu and Kashmir, 362 such minority institutions will get Rs 3.47 crore in Central aid.

The state government has sanctioned Rs 3.47 crore as central assistance in favour of Directors of School Education of Jammu and Kashmir. The amount will be released to 362 Madrassas of the state as grant-in-aid, a spokesman of state education department said here.

The funds have been released under Centrally Sponsored Scheme for providing quality education in the Madrassas (SPQEM) for incurring expenditure on salary, teaching, learning material, establishment of library and science, computer labs, workshop after fulfilling some conditions, he said.

The Directors of School Education are required to spend the amount in accordance with the guidelines of the scheme furnished by the concerned Ministry.

Also, there will be no diversion to any other scheme and the Directorates shall send a status report about the schemes, physical and financial progress as per the schedule of the Finance department.

The minority institutions should be recognised and affiliated with the designated competent authorities and also fulfil the basic conditions, he said.
