Bhopal: The electricity rate in Madhya Pradesh would be the highest if the Electricity Regulatory Commission agrees to the proposal of Electricity board. The Electricity distribution company of eastern region has proposed a 40 percent hike in power supply rates to the commission to replenish its annual estimated fund.

According to the proposal, for 30 units power consumption per unit cost will be increased from Rs 2.85 to Rs 4 for domestic use. However, commercial firms will be charged Rs 5.80 instead of Rs 4.55.

Besides, the proposal also demanded that per unit cost of electricity should be increased from Rs 4.55 to Rs 5 for the small scale sector.

Meanwhile, industrialists and traders lobby of the state has strongly opposed the proposal submitted by the company, as its implementation would discourage the new industries from investment and the existing one would flee from the state.
