Jamshedpur: Despite Maoists’ call for poll boycott, about 50 percent voters cast their franchise in Jamshedpur parliamentary by-poll which was vacated by Chief Minister Arjun Munda. The fate of 20 candidates is locked in the EVMs which will be out on July 4.

Polling in Maheshpur in Ghatsila sub-division was disrupted for a while on Friday after CPI (Maoists) fired in the air to scare away voters. Besides, the polling was boycotted in five booths.

However, 110 companies of security personnel were deployed for conducting free and fair election.

The incident of firing between police and Naxalites was reported at booth number 161 at Maheshpur of Ghorabandha police station. The polling was disrupted for a while in the wake of firing but it resumed later.

The villagers at Bardih and Shirishbani boycotted the poll after partial voting early in the morning.

Apart from this, voters at booth number 371 of Jugaslai Assembly constituency boycotted the polls over their demand of electricity whereas villagers at Somayjhopri of Bagbera did the same over the demand of drinking water.
