Ranchi: A survey conducted by Joint Review Mission (JRM) team revealed that more than 50 to 60 percent students in Jharkhand are deprived of Mid-day meal scheme benefits.

The JRM team which was sent by the Centre to look into the implementation of the scheme visited primary and upper primary schools in Ranchi, Khunti and Lohardaga district between January30–February 6.

The report further stated that from 2007 to September 2011, out of total students enrolled in schools, maximum were deprived of Mid-day meal benefits.

According to the report, irregularity in implementation of the scheme by the state government is the reason behind the failure of the scheme.

The survey also claimed forgery in the Bank accounts of several schools.

The maids have not received salary from the last seven months. In Khunti, out of five maids only four were found on job. It also claimed that Rs 1,250 was given to each instead of Rs 1000 sanctioned by the Centre.

The report also said that absenteeism of students is also a major reason behind the failure of this scheme.
