"Only 30 to 40 percent of the funds coming from the government are spent on development works, the bad shape of roads in Uttar Pradesh are an evidence to this fact. Middlemen, leaders and officials together are misusing the hard earned money of the people", Varun Gandhi said at a public meeting in Kanhaipur bazar on Friday afternoon.
Varun Gandhi is expected to contest from here in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP leader said that roads are in a bad shape as the material being used for their construction is not up to the mark.
At another meeting in Shivgarh, he said that providing employment in the region would be among his top priorities and he would talk to industrialists in this regard.
On Thursday, party workers celebrated Varun Gandhi's birthday along with the local residents by cutting a cake and took the resolve to ensure his victory by a handsome margin.
