Bhopal:  Despite living in the 21st century, the condition of women in our society is deplorable. According to a data released by National Crime Record Bureau, in the last two years more than six thousand incidents of rape with women have been reported in Madhya Pradesh. These figures raise an alarm about the safety and security of women in our society.

In a written reply to a question of Tulsiram Silawatt in the assembly, Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta quoted that 3,135 cases of rape were reported in 2010. This further increased to 3,406 in 2011. 260 cases of rape were recorded in the state capital Indore alone.  Around 364 accused were arrested and 240 were produced in the Challan Court.

Meanwhile, MLA Paras Saklecha accused the state government of shielding rape accused.  He further said that a Sub-Inspector of Chandan Nagar police station found guilty of making an MMS of a tribal girl was reinducted by the government after facing suspension which clearly demonstrated intentions of the state government.
