Dehradun: A total of 615 Cadets, including 8 cadets from the friendly foreign countries on Saturday passed out of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) here to join the army as officers after successfully completing their training.

The cadets were commissioned at a function marked by a ceremonious Passing Out Parade (POP) reviewed by Sri Lankan Army Chief Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya, who also inspected a guard of honour given by the cadets.

Of the newly-commissioned officers, the maximum 170 will join the infantry followed by artillery and engineering which will get 122 and 70 officers respectively.

The maximum 108 officers hailed from Uttar Pradesh followed by 64 from Uttarakhand and 63 from Haryana.

Karan Kothari received the coveted Sword of Honour for being the best all-rounder during the pre-commission training.

While Abhijeet Singh was awarded gold medal for standing first in the order of merit in regular course, Abhishek Chandra and Amit Bijalwan received silver and bronze medals for standing second and third.
