Jammu: Aiming to keep the police force abreast of latest developments in the field of technology, 6,342 cops have been trained in modern techniques of policing in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the past year.

"As many as 6,342 personnel have been trained during 2011 in training institutions in various fields of policing such as intelligence gathering, crime detection, investigation on scientific lines and counter-insurgency," Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda said.

Under the training programme, police training institutions across the state were upgraded with new methodology in sync with latest developments in technology.

Basic recruitment training was provided to 2,866 constables while 1,849 jawans and officers took specialised courses, he said.

Besides other police personnel who were trained in Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and to tackle counter insurgency, 454 officers underwent training outside the state in various fields of policing, Khoda said.

Bulk promotions were also affected in the gazetted and non-gazetted cadres during the year, he added.
