Bhopal: The wheat procurement in Madhya Pradesh will begin from March 15 and continue till May 20. The Food and Civil Supplies Department will purchase 65 lakh metric tonne of wheat, which is 15 lakhs metric tonne more than the previous year.

For the year 2012, the government has declared Rs 1285 support price for wheat and the farmers would get a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Paras Chandra Jain said the state government will procure wheat from farmers through 2,317 agriculture cooperative societies.

In 27 districts, the state cooperative marketing societies and in another 23 districts, state civil supplies department will procure wheat for the state. Out of the total procurement, eight lakh tonne wheat will be provisioned for the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

It was also learnt that out of 65 lakh metric tonne wheat, 12 lakh metric tonne will be stored in government storage houses, 30 lakh tonne in godowns in joint venture with private players and 23 lakh tonne will be stored  in temporary camps at different districts.
