Kerala witnessed the Republic Day parade as state Governor P Sathasivam hosted the national flag and saluted the army personnel.
Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala also was a part of the parade in the state. The state governor also hosted the national flag and gave respect to the proud Army.
Accepting the guard of honour on the occasion, Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi asserted that the state is moving fast on the avowed path of "growth with justice."
Manjhi presided over the parade at the historic Gandhi Maidan instead of Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, also the West Bengal Governor, with the latter unfurling the tricolor in Kolkata.
Rajasthan joined the country to celebrate the 66th Republic Day as Governor Kalyan Singh and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje unfurled the tricolour amid tight security.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi too hosted the national flag in Guwahati.
Republic Day was also celebrated with full fervour in Tamil Nadu with Governor K Rosaiah unfurling the national flag and Chief Minister O Panneerselvam giving away annual awards to police personnel and civilians.
Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao also participated in the celebrations and saluted the proud Indian Army in Mumbai.
Addressing the gathering after unfurling the national flag at the first Republic Day function at Parade Ground here, after Telangana state was created, state Governor ESL Narasimhan has rolled out a transparent strategy to augment welfare of the poor and to usher in balanced development in all spheres of economy and create a corruption free society.
Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh also joined the nation in celebrating the Republic Day. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar took salute at Mohali and Kaithal respectively.
