Colombo (Agencies): In the fresh flooding in several parts of Sri Lanka, at least seven persons were killed and almost one million have been affected.

The flooding in eastern, northern and north central Sri Lanka has claimed 7 lives while two persons were reported missing, the disaster management centre (DRC) said.

"980,520 persons belonging to 295,156 families have been affected due to floods," Pardeep Kodippilli, Assitant Director of the DRC told the press.

More than 7,700 houses are either destroyed or damaged in flooding which also caused considerable damage to roads and other infrastructure facilities in flood affected areas.

This is the second time within a month that Sri Lanka has been badly affected by floods.

In January, more than a million people were affected and 300,000 left homeless in flooding which also claimed at least 43 lives.

Meanwhile, Meteorological Department has forecast more rains.

"We can expect more rains in next 24 hours, particularly for the eastern province" Merril Mendis, Duty Forecaster at the Meteorological Department told media.
