Indore: Two jars containing eight foetuses and one uterus preserved in formalin, were on Saturday found thrown in an open drainage in Gawla Colony here, police said.

The incident came to light when a passerby noticed the jars, which contained foetuses and the uterus, thrown in the drainage, Chandan Nagar Thana Incharge Pawan Mishra told.

Preliminary investigations found that it could be old samples of foetus and uterus stored in formalin for medical education, District hospital head Dr Bharat Vajpayee said.

The foetuses were two to six months old, he said adding that an investigation had been launched to find out whether which medical establishment had thrown the fetuses and uterus by violating guidelines.
