Agartala: Amid rising speculations over prime ministerial candidate of BJP for the next Lok Sabha elections, party Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is one of the eight top BJP leaders who could be the party's face for the top post.

"There is a list of eight top leaders in the party including Narendra Modi who could be prime ministerial candidates in the next elections," Naqvi said while talking to mediapersons in Agartala after releasing the party manifesto for February 14 assembly polls.

BJP has fielded 50 candidates for the sixty-member Tripura assembly.

“There is no rift and differences in opinion in the party. The party's parliamentary board would decide on the Prime Ministerial candidate from the eight top leaders at an appropriate time,” he said.

He further added, "We think the mechanism we have introduced to choose prime ministerial candidate is right and there is no confusion among us regarding choosing our candidate."

Expressing confidence that NDA would form the next government at the Centre, Naqvi said that eight parties would join NDA soon.

Denying of opening cards on the aligning parties, he said, “Some of the parties had been our allies in the past.”

He said that good governance, providing safety and security to the people, particularly the women, are the main issues on which BJP was laying importance.

Taking on the Congress-led UPA government, Naqvi said, “Our Prime Minister is controlled through remote by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi”.
