Motihari (Bihar): Police on Monday seized 80 kg of cooked and raw meat of deer in Bihar's East Champaran district and arrested one person in the case.

Acting on a tip off, police raided the Bhawanipur Kushwaha tola village and seized the haul of deer meat and hides and arrested Ramprit Mukhiya for illegal possession of the meat of a protected animal, Sangrampur police station's Station House Officer (SHO) Manoj Kumar Singh said.

Raids were being carried out to recover horns and other body parts of the deer, he said.

An FIR has been lodged against 20 persons, including five identified persons, for illegal possession of the deer meat, Singh said.

The case has been handed over to the forest department as the animal belonged to the protected category under the Wildlife Act, the SHO said.
