Rio de Janeiro, Feb 2 (Agencies): The death toll in torrential rains triggered mudslides in Rio de Janeiro has risen to 860, authorities said.

According to the figures stated by sources, floods and mudslides in the Serrana region, have left 416 dead in Nova Friburgo, 346 in Teresopolis, 71 in Petropolis, 21 in Sumidouro, 4 in Sao Jose do Vale do Rio Preto, and 1 in Bom Jardim.  

Rio de Janeiro state attorney general's office said that in addition 429 people remain unaccounted. 

The state health department said 8,777 people were rendered homeless and around 20,790 had to be evacuated.
