Bhopal: As many as 89 cases have been registered in different police stations against housing society and land mafias in state capital Bhopal in the past three years (2009-2011).

Out of 89 cases, 32 cases are associated with housing society.

Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta on Thursday took a stock of pending cases related to the Cooperative with Police Department.

The Minister asked the Collector and the Senior Superintendent of Police to look into the matter jointly and take immediate action.

Bhopal SSP Yogesh Choudhary informed that out of 49 cases sent by DC Cooperative, FIR has been registered in 32 cases.

“At present, legal aspects of 11 cases are being examined and in a week these cases would be sorted out. On remaining six cases, FIR can’t be registered,” Choudhary said.

Collector Nikunj Shrivastava said that a committee has been formed to review all such cases on monthly basis. The committee comprises Additional Collector, Additional SP and DC Cooperative.

The committee is entitled to look into the cases thoroughly before sending its report to the police.

The district administration and the police department had a conflict over registration of cases against two-dozen housing society committees.

Based on the committee’s investigation report, the administration has asked the police to lodge cases against all the indicted officials. But, the police did not register any case stating that administration has not provided relevant documents, therefore cases can’t be registered.
