New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi batted for harshest punishments to the rapists during her visit to violence-hit Haryana, but it seems that her party members don’t endorse her opinions.

Surprisingly, Dharamveer Goyal, a senior Congress leader in the state on Friday said that 90 percent of such incidents are consensual.

Notably, Goyal’s shocking statementm which said that the rape victims normally agree to go with the accused which in most of the cases result into gang rape,  comes a few days after Haryana Congress president Phool Chand Mullana alleged "political conspiracy" behind the sudden rise in the number of rape cases in the state.

Meanwhile, former chief minister National Lok Dal chief Om Prakash Chautala offered a bizarre solution to curb rape. He said marriageable age of girls should be lowered to 16 years to check crime against women.

In a shocker, 22 cases of rape and gang rape have surfaced within 30 days in the state, with a 16-year-old girl committing suicide, who too was a victim.

While, National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamata Sharma deemed Goyal’s remarks as  an attempt to cover up crimes against women.
