Kolkata: Turning heat on its alliance partner in Bengal, the Congress has given seven-day ultimatum to Mamata Banerjee government to take back the move of renaming Indira Bhavan at Salt Lake as Nazrul Bhavan.

In a meeting presided by Shakeel Ahmed, a senior Congress leader and AICC representative, it was decided to write a letter to Banerjee to roll back the proposal of rechristening Indira Bhavan. Expressing concern over the remaining issue, the state Congress decided to go for an agitation if the CM does not reconsider it.

State Congress President Pradeep Bhattacharya said, “The party has sent letter to the Chief Minister. If the CM or the TMC leaders do not give verbal assurance to drop the plan of renaming Indira Bhavan, the Congress would go for agitation.”

The state Congress declared about the protest only after getting green signal from the party high command. On the other hand MP Adheer Chaudhary and Deepa Dasmunshi are defiant over the issue. More so, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has supported the party leaders.
