Cracker production norms go up in smoke

Ghaziabad: As the festival of Diwali inches closer, the production and sale of fire crackers is on the rise. Even as those engrossed in unlawful activity of manufacturing fireworks illegally have become active in the region, the district administration has ignored the safety parameters while issuing the license.

It can be gauged from the fact that licenses are provided to those factories which are situated in populated areas of the city, posing threat to human lives. Such a situation exists in Loni, Ghaiabad, Sahibabad and Hapur region. It needs to be mentioned that 77 licenses are issued in Ghaziabad and Panchsheel Nagar districts for the manufacturing of fire crackers.

In Ghaziabad alone 49 licenses are issued for manufacturing of crackers. 5 licenses are issued for Modinagar tehsil, 21 in Dhaulana and Hapur tehsils.

However, sellers and the manufactures, deliver more quantity of firecrackers than the stipulated quantity. Besides, the officials of district administration carry a negligent approach and inspect the factories just days before the festival.
