Mumbai (Jagran News Network): Rajinikanth has done the unthinkable once again. This time it is not just one of his countless filmy tricks that keeps the viewers hooked to his charisma, but the ringing box office register that has made film Robot the biggest ever grosser till date. Probably.

“While there is no official source for box office collections, Robot must have raked in at least 375 crore for us and the trade combined and this is a conservative estimate,” Ajay Vidyasagar, Chief Operating Officer of Sun TV, the production company of Robot, told a news channel on Tuesday.

With Sun TV registering a 50% increase in revenues to 607.06 crore during the quarter ended December 2010, Robot alone added Rs 179 cr to the Q3 figures.

Robot hit screens on October 1 last year in more than 2,400 theatres worldwide. The Tamil version, Enthiran, was released in 1,400 screens in Tamil Nadu.

It led to a huge Rajini wave which saw not only the Tamil superstar get fans in every part of India but also catapulted him into the category of India’s A-list superstars. Some even say he is bigger than Amitabh Bachchan.

Rajini SMSs and jokes do the rounds on Internet, mobile phones till date.

The film starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan opposite Rajinikanth who was in a double role -  that of a scientist and an evil Robot created by him. Rajinikanth’s next flick is ‘Rana’.
