National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah is son of Sheikh Abdullah (1905-1982), who was popularly known as ‘Sher-e-Kashmir’. Union Minister Farooq’s son Omar Abdullah is the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir.

Farooq is contesting Lok Sabha elections from Srinagar constituency. His daughter Sara Abdullah is married to Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) president Sachin Pilot. Pilot, who is also the Union Minister of Corporate Affairs, is contesting the polls from Ajmer.

Lalu Prasad Yadav (1948) : Lalu Prasad Yadav is the president of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Lalu had served as Chief Minister of Bihar and was also the Railway Minister. After the court found him guilty of being involved in a multi-crore fodder scam in 1996, he lost membership of Lok Sabha from Saran. The court also barred him from contesting polls.

Former Chief Minister and wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharati are contesting Lok Sabha polls from Saran and Patliputra respectively. Interestingly, Sadhu Yadav is contesting against her sister Rabri Devi as an Independent candidate from Saran.

Ajit Singh (1939) : Son of Chaudhary Charan Singh, Ajit is the chief of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). He is also the Union Civil Aviation Minister.

Two members of his family are contesting the Lok Sabha polls this year. Ajit Singh is fighting elections from Baghpat in Western Uttar Pradesh, while his son Jayant is trying his luck again in Mathura.

Ram Vilas Paswan (1946) : Ram Vilas Paswan is the president of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and a Rajya Sabha MP.

In his political career, Paswan holds the record of winning elections by highest margin of votes. In 1989, Paswan won Hajipur seat by a huge margin of around 6 lakh votes.

His family members are said to be in complete control over LJP’s party affairs. LJP, in alliance with BJP, has got seven seats out of 40 Parliamentary seats in Bihar. Ram Vilas Paswan, along with his brother Ramchandra and his son Chirag Paswan are contesting on three out of the seven seats. Chirag, who has tried his luck in Bollywood too, is considered as the emerging face of LJP.
