New Delhi: The unavailability of basic facilities at Ramlila Maidan could not deplete the enthusiasm of Anna supporters, who are either chanting holy Ramayana scriptures or singing patriotic songs during the night. Jagran correspondent SK Gupta took stock of the activities and the atmosphere at the Ground Zero of the crusade against corruption on the first night of Anna’s protest.

10 pm (Friday)

Some of the supporters are making an exit as Anna goes to sleep after undergoing medical checkups. Anna supporters are raising slogans “Anna Hazare, live long!” for bringing Jan Lokpal. The MCD is engaged in giving final touches to the ground.

11pm

Several groups of loyal supporters are sitting on the ground while others roam around. Despite mud and water logging in the ground, they are full of confidence to fight against corruption.  The police’s shift has been changed.

12 am (Saturday)

A group of supporters is chanting scriptures of the holy Ramayana. Some TV channels correspondents reach the venue to know the views of Anna supporters, who start raising slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” in front of cameras. The intensity of slogans is deafening.

1 am

People from other states as well as Delhi continue to reach the ground to get a glimpse of Anna. Volunteers are busy distributing pamphlets with information about Jan Lokpal.

2 am

Some supporters are raising slogans against the Government for not adopting Jan Lokpal, while some are dancing, drunk with the expectation of cleansing the malaise of corruption. Meanwhile, volunteers of ISKCON temple serve ‘Prasadam’ to the supporters.

3am

Two children visit with tea for the supporters. The blood pressure of the supporters is being checked in the medical checkup camp. They are advised to take water.

4am
Volunteers are engaged in cleaning the ground as members of Team Anna are going to visit the podium.

5 am

Anna supporters start gathering around the venue. Security forces are on duty around the ground.  The lights have been switched on. The podium is being cleaned. Supporters are getting ready to have a darshan of Anna.
