New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Monday made it clear that cut-away portion of Aadhaar letter and e-Aadhaar will be considered a valid proof of identity and address.

The clarification was issued following a complaint stating that this ‘valid document’ (Aadhaar) was unacceptable for the purpose.

According to the statement issued by the authority, the Information Technology Act, 2000 provides legal recognition for electronic records and digital signatures. Hence e-Aadhaar is a valid document because it has been digitally certified.

The authority has also started a ‘Resident Portal’ to allow people to download their e-Aadhaar.
