Hazaribagh:  Aadhar card or the Unique Identification Card (UID) not just aims at providing a unique id number to all Indians but also ensures the poor to assert their rights. Likewise, Aadhar promises labourers their payments to be made under MNREGA.

For the first time hundreds of laborers of Meru Panchayat of Hazaribagh district (Jharkhand) received their MNREGA wages on basis of their Aadhar card.

UID Director RS Sharma told reporters, “Under this pilot project this programme is being run in the district which ensures payment of wages to the laborers. And this operation will now be carried out at Rourkela, Kharsawan and Ranchi. On the success of the same this can be operated in other states too.

The revolutionary system can diminish the role of middlemen from society as people can claim various services directly through online application. People can also apply for scholarships, pension and other government schemes through online services available at the Panchayat. Other services like mobile connections, LPG gas cylinders could also be linked to the system.
