New Delhi: Actor-producer Aamir Khan was on Monday named the brand ambassador of the Women and Child Development Ministry for spreading the message of curbing malnutrition among children.

Khan held a meeting with WCD Minister Krishna Tirath here on Monday along with his creative team led by Prasoon Joshi, making a presentation on his concept how he plans to spearhead the campaign on arousing consciousness among people about ill effects of malnutrition and prevent children from trap of malnutrition, the ministry said in a statement.

"Tirath expressed happiness that Aamir is ready to shoulder this social responsibility for free. She thanked Aamir for sharing the government's concern for children and making this sincere effort in spreading the social message about the scourge of malnutrition and good food habits among
children and mothers," the statement said.

Khan is known as a thinking actor who has played sensitive characters in movies including those focussing on children like "Taare Zameen pe".

Khan's new movie Delhi Belly was released last week.
