Itanagar, Jan19 (Agencies): In protest against the issue of stapled visas to two Arunachal sportsmen by China and the "step-motherly" treatment meted out to the state by the Centre the All Arunachal Pradesh Students'Union (AAPSU) has decided to boycott the Republic Day celebrations.

A decision to this effect was taken by the apex students'body during its central executive body meeting here on Tuesday.

Referring to the "humiliation" meted out to budding weightlifter Yukar Sibi and his mentor Techi Abraham who were disallowed to embark on the invitational trip to the neighbouring country because of visa row,the AAPSU decided to boycott all functions of national importance.

"By issuing stapled visas to the Arunachalees,China has virtually challenged Indian rule over Arunachal,"AAPSU president Takam Tatung said in a statement.

"The Central government's response has been very lukewarm in this regard.

Why did a budding sportsperson like Yukar Sibi have to face such problems for none of his fault? New Delhi and Beijing should resolve the border issue at the earliest so that  Arunachalee citizens do not suffer,"he said.

The AAPSU also claimed that the Indian government was yet to seal the border with China despite repeated appeals by them in the past.

"Till now,the border has been demarcated as per our tribal customs,"the statement said.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) in an extended executive body meeting here on Tuesday registered a strong protest on the stapled visa issue.

Adopting a resolution in this regard, the party urged AICC president Sonia Gandhi to pursue the Central government to resolve the issue bilaterally and diplomatically with China.
