Ranchi: Water scarcity has been plaguing Jharkhand for long. While it was the common man who used to battle for water earlier, now it has led to a tug of war between two corporate houses coming up with power plants in the state.

Abhijeet group and Essar are coming up with power projects near Chandwa in Latehar district. But the both the companies are now in a tug of war over using water of river Damodar and setting up their intake well in McCluskiegunj region.

Both the companies want water from the Damodar River. Essar, which took permission long time back, has already been allocated 50 MCM water from the water resources department, while Abhijeet group though requires equal amount of water to operate its plant has received permission of 17 MCM of water as of now.

Abhijeet Group claims they have received permission from DVRRC so water resource department’s go-ahead is a mere formality.

Both the companies are also battling over location of their intake well. Essar claims as they had got the permission earlier, there is no point of relocation now.
