Hyderabad: A local court on Tuesday granted nine-day police custody to Malishetty Bhanu Kiran, the prime accused in the sensational murder of factionist Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri.

The CID had on Monday filed an application in the Sixth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate here seeking 14-day custody of Bhanu Kiran saying that would help them find out other conspirators in Suri's murder case as also about the properties 'illegally' acquired by him.

The court while granting nine-day custody of Kiran has directed the agency not to use third-degree method during interrogation and that the questioning should be done in the presence of his counsel.

The court further directed CID to take Bhanu's custody on and to produce him before the court on May 4.

Bhanu Kiran, one of the most wanted persons in Andhra Pradesh and a former aide of Suri, was arrested by a CID team on the outskirts of Zaheerabad town in Medak district on Saturday last, after evading arrest for over 15 months.

A faction leader from Anantapur district in Rayalaseema region, Suri, who was prime accused in the murder of TDP MLA Paritala Ravi in 2005, was shot dead in a car at Yousufguda here on January 3 last year.
