Thiruvananthapuram:  CPI-M stalwart VS Achuthanandan was on Tuesday questioned by Vigilance officials probing the case relating to assigning of government land to his relative in alleged violation of rules in Kasaragod district during his tenure as Chief Minister.

A vigilance police team recorded Achuthanandan's statement at his residence here after he had twice earlier refused to respond citing various reasons.

He agreed to be questioned after the Vigilance decided to register a case even without Achuthanandan's statement.

Kasaragod Dy SP Kunhiraman and Kozhikode SP Habeeb Rahman were part of the team.

The case relates to allotment of 2.33 acre of government land to TK Soman, an ex-serviceman, with the right to sell the land in violation of rules.

Files relating to the case, including those bearing the signature of Achuthanandan, were shown to him while taking the statement, sources said.

The then Revenue Minister K P Rajendran had earlier been questioned by the Vigilance in the case.
