Mumbai, Jan 27 (Agencies): Taking a stand in the killing of the Additional District Collector, Maharashtra government is mulling trial of 11 people, accused in the burning alive of Yashwant Sonawane, in a fast track court, a top police official said on Thursday.

"We have never come across such a heinous crime. The government has taken a stand that the case should be expedited and we have also been told to ensure the punishment given to
the accused at the earliest. Government is considering to try the accused in a fast track court," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) K P Raghuvanshi said.

He said that after the incident the adulteration rackets in petrol, diesel, kerosene, milk and grease have been busted across the state where in nearly 180 people associated with these
gangs have been arrested under relevant sections.

Chandrapur, Vardha, Nagpur, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Ahmednagar, Nagpur and Navi Mumbai were among the districts where the raids were being conducted, Raghuvanshi said.
