Bhopal: Criticising the Central Government for the midnight crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his supporters, senior BJP leader LK Advani on Friday compared police action at Ramlila Ground with the ‘Emergency days’ in 1975.

The former deputy Prime Minister, who was in Bhopal to inaugurate the Madhya Pradesh Natya Vidyalaya, was addressing mediapersons at Raja Bhoj Airport here.

“The action on Baba Ramdev, who was on a Satyagraha at Ramlila Maidan, reminds me of Emergency days. I expressed my apprehension a day before the crackdown and I was proved right,” Advani said.

Attacking the ruling party on the twin issue of corruption and black money, Advani alleged that UPA government is trying to crush those who are raising them.

“The UPA government’s commitment to fight the menace of corruption and black money is doubtful. It is in fact crushing those who are raising these issues,” Advani said adding that his party would raise the issues forcefully in Parliament.

Advani explained that even in 2G scam, it was the Supreme Court that forced the Centre to take a tough stand.

While asking the government to table the Lokpal Bill in Parliament at the earliest, Advani said, “Government must bring the Bill at the earliest so that people get a better idea of the government’s stand on the issue.”

Reiterating party’s stand over the office of Lokpal, Advani said as the Bill is to be ratified by the Parliament they would come out with their opinion on it in the House.
