Hyderabad: Noting that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is an extremely popular leader in the country, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Monday said that the issue of BJP's prime ministerial candidate would be decided by the party's Parliamentary Board.

Advani praises Shivraj Singh Chauhan

Asked whether BJP patriarch LK Advani is pitching against Modi by appreciating Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, he said, “I think Advani's statement has been wrongly interpreted. There cannot be two opinions that Narendra Modi is the most popular leader in the country.”

To a query about Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh's reported remarks that there is a cold war within the BJP, he replied in the negative and said that a cold war actually existed in the Congress. "There is no cold war in BJP. Whatever decision I have to take, I will take after calling a meeting of the central Parliamentary Board," he said.

Singh claimed that all BJP-ruled states had developed in their respective socio-economic conditions. Comparing Chauhan's development model with that of Modi, Advani had said that the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister deserved more credit. He argued that Chauhan, the Chief Minister of a 'BIMARU state, had brought about considerable progress during his tenure, while Modi only improved an already economically well-off Gujarat.
