Kolkata: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to meet the Prime Minister soon to discuss the issue of a special package for West Bengal. In addition, he will also ask Home Minister P Chidambaram to earmark additional funds for the development of Naxal-hit areas of the state.

Mukherjee on Sunday said, “Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sought special package for the state and she herself held discussion with the Prime Minister.”

He added, “After holding discussion with the PM, I will be in better position to clarify the issue.”

Commenting on the CM’s demand to include Bankura and Purulia in the Naxal hit Junglemahal area, Mukherjee opined he will apprise the Home Minister of the issue. The Naxal-hit area are provided special package for development works. Earlier, Banerjee had sought to disburse special fund for these two districts.

On being asked about soaring price rates, Mukherjee said the double digit inflation is matter of concern and the Centre is taking required steps in this regard.
